Premature ejaculation is when male ejaculation occurs sooner than desired. Occasional episodes are common and no cause for concern however if recurring and disruptive treatment may help and discussion with your GP is advised.
Premature ejaculation that is recurrent can happen for a number of reasons:
Some suffering from premature ejaculation that is recurrent may find assistance from a psychosexual therapist beneficial.Â
From this techniques such as then squeeze technique can be learned; this involves stopping prior to ejaculation, squeezing the head of the penis for 10-20 seconds and then waiting before resuming.Â
Other methods such as masturbating an hour or two prior to sex or wearing a thick condom may also help.
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as paroxetine, sertraline and fluoxetine (prozac) while antidepressants, can also be used to delay ejaculation.Â
Precautions: Consult with your GP and pharmacists first and these require prescriptions. SSRIs may cause side effects such as excessive sweating , diarrhoea and nausea.Â
Dapoxetine is a selective serotonin uptake inhibitor (SSRI) that is licensed in the uk specifically for use to treat premature ejaculation.
Dapoxetine works much faster than other SSRIs for this purpose and can be taken 1 to 3 hours prior to sex up to once per day.
Important: Requires prescription after consultation with your healthcare professional. Dapoxetine is not suitable for all men with heart, kidney or liver issues. It can also react with other antidepressants, medication and may cause nausea.
Phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors such as sildenafil (viagra) can help with premature ejaculation as well as erectile dysfunction.
Precautions: This can be prescribed by your doctor but also can be bought from a pharmacy after discussion with a pharmacist to assure it is safe for you.
