What is Rosacea?

This is a chronic skin, inflammatory condition that causes redness, acne-like spots. Rosacea is a long-term skin condition that affects the face mainly. It causes redness across various areas on your face (nose, cheeks, forehead, chin, neck and chest) or a burning.

While there is no cure, the right treatment plan can effectively control symptoms and prevent flare-ups, improving both appearance and confidence.

Treatment & Advice

Isotretinoin

A powerful oral retinoid derived from Vitamin A, primarily used for severe acne but sometimes prescribed for rosacea-related skin changes.

Reduces the size of sebaceous glands, decreasing oil production and bacteria on the skin surface.

Taken orally once or twice a day with food as directed by your prescriber. Course length varies.

Must not be taken during pregnancy. Regular blood tests are required. Avoid alcohol and excess sun exposure.

Always use a high-factor sunscreen and moisturiser daily. Discuss mental health history with your prescriber before starting.

Erythromycin is used for rosacea when penicillin is not working. This medication comes in different form: oral, topical, and injectable form.

Oxytetracycline

Oxytetracycline is a class of antibiotic known as tetracycline. This prescription comes in different form oral or topical form.

Oxytetracycline binds to 30S ribosomal submit of the bacteria and this prevent the protein production in the bacteria cell, slow down or completely stops cell division. This process is rather bacteriostatic (stops the bacteria from replicating) than bactericidal (kill bacteria).

Finacea is a 15% azelaic acid that comes in cream or gel form. Azelaic acid is a natural acid that helps the skin to renew itself while reducing inflammation, redness, and flares-up. This can be used to treat mild to moderate rosacea and acne.

With this beneficial property, Azelaic acid, Finacea helps to reduce inflammation, works as an anti-inflammatory to reduce redness, swelling, and irritation. Finacea also works as an anti-bacterial, which means it kills bacteria involved in rosacea and acne (bactericidal), unclogs pores and prevents new bumps from forming, which normalises skin cell turnover, and also fades post-inflammatory marks whilst reducing pigmentation.
