This is a chronic inflammatory skin condition caused by an overactive immune response. During psoriasis, skin cells are made faster than usual (skin cell are made in days instead of weeks), inflammation causes redness, soreness, and itch. Skin cells build on top of the skin forming thick plagues.
Consult our MP Pharmacists or healthcare providers if:
There is no direct cause for psoriasis however our GP’s can prescribe things to help improve symptoms
The first treatment our GP’s will prescribe are topical treatments (like vitamin D or Corticosteroids) which can be applied directly to the skin.
If these do not work, our GPs might suggest phototherapy. This involves exposing your skin to certain types of ultraviolet light to help improve any symptoms.
In severe cases, or when treatments do not work our GP’s may give you systemic treatments. These are oral or injected medicines that work throughout the entire body.
