What is Psoriasis?

This is a chronic inflammatory skin condition caused by an overactive immune response. During psoriasis, skin cells are made faster than usual (skin cell are made in days instead of weeks), inflammation causes redness, soreness, and itch. Skin cells build on top of the skin forming thick plagues.

HC45 Hydrocortisone

HC45 Hydrocortisone is a mild steroid in the form of a cream. It contains hydrocortisone acetate (1% Hydrocortisone) and treats certain skin conditions like psoriasis.
HC45 Hydrocortisone works by calming the skin’s immune response to irritants by delivering a mild steroid. This stops the release of inflammatory chemicals like histamine which reduces inflammation, redness, itching and swelling.
HC45 Hydrocortisone starts working quite quickly, improvements start showing within 2-7 days. If no improvements are seen after a week of use stop using it immediately and consult one of our doctors.

Sebco

Sebco is a medicated ointment that contains coal tar, salicylic acid and sulfur in a coconut oil base. It is used to treat specific skin conditions that cause dry skin on the scalp.

Capasal

Capasal is a medicated shampoo which are used to help with skin conditions that cause a dry, scaly scalp. It is a shampoo containing salicylic acid, coal tar and coconut oil.
People usually show improvements within 2 to 4 weeks of regular weeks. Consistency is key for the best results.

Exorex

Exorex is a brand of lotion which can be brought over-the-counter and contains coal tar. Exorex is used to treat mild to moderate psoriasis.
5% Coal tar: this slows skin cell growth which helps reduce the symptoms of psoriasis. It also has antibacterial properties to help prevent infections.
Exorex can start to show improvement within a few weeks but a full treatment plan may take 2-3 months. It is important to slowly dilute the lotions for best results as it is dependent on skin tolerance.

What cause's Psoriasis?

There is no direct cause for psoriasis however our GP’s can prescribe things to help improve symptoms

What treatment should I use?

The first treatment our GP’s will prescribe are topical treatments (like vitamin D or Corticosteroids) which can be applied directly to the skin.

Are there other treatments for Psoriasis?

If these do not work, our GPs might suggest phototherapy. This involves exposing your skin to certain types of ultraviolet light to help improve any symptoms.

In severe cases, or when treatments do not work our GP’s may give you systemic treatments. These are oral or injected medicines that work throughout the entire body.
